SUMMARY:U.S. Is In\, Emissions Are Out – Unpacking U.S. Climate Targets and the Paris Agreement After the White House Climate Summit
DESCRIPTION:VIEW WEBINAR RECORDING \nThe U.S. is back in the Paris Climate Agreement and set to unveil a new “nationally determined contribution” (NDC) of emission reduction targets ahead of an April 22 White House Leaders Summit on Climate. President Biden scheduled the Summit to renew the U.S. role as a global leader on climate and prompt other world leaders to take more aggressive climate action. The NDC and any additional climate commitments coming out of the Summit are expected to provide a foundation for the administration’s climate regulatory agenda. Members of Sidley’s Climate Group will provide an overview of the Summit\, a comprehensive breakdown of the NDC\, and thoughtful analysis of how it may drive the administration’s “whole-of-government” approach to climate. The panel will also discuss what role\, if any\, Congress will play and potential implications for private-sector climate initiatives\, including Environmental\, Social\, and Governance (ESG)\, among other areas. \nPANELISTS \nSamuel B. SUMMARY:How to Protect Employees and Manage Business Risk During COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:Employers seeking to return workers safely must contend with a rapidly expanding marketplace of pesticide products advertised to fight SARS-CoV-2\, the novel coronavirus causing COVID-19. Some of these products violate federal and state pesticide law and subject businesses to regulatory risk given intense scrutiny at federal and state levels. SUMMARY:EPA Enforcement Priorities in U.S. Pesticide Law
DESCRIPTION:An ELI & Sidley Austin LLP Co-Sponsored Webinar \nThe U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has long governed federal pesticide law under the Federal Insecticide\, Fungicide\, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). FIFRA has a broad reach\, overseeing conventional insecticides\, but also plant growth regulators\, antimicrobial surface disinfectants\, pesticide “devices” like germicidal ultraviolet light systems or ozone generators\, and more. Currently\, EPA has continued to stress FIFRA as a leading priority area in national enforcement guidance. \nUnder FIFRA\, EPA has specific authority to regulate products meant to provide surface disinfection from bacteria\, microbes\, and viruses. Indeed\, products making claims to mitigate SARS-CoV-2\, the novel coronavirus causing COVID-19\, have fallen under intense scrutiny from EPA recently. Meanwhile\, the focus on FIFRA compliance issues is increasingly intersecting with EPA’s growing scrutiny of imports to the U.S. Import reviews target traditional pesticide products\, and now also center on nontraditional items such as UV lights and air purifiers. \nGiven these trends\, questions are arising over EPA’s enforcement priorities in U.S. pesticide law. What are EPA’s strategies for enforcing federal pesticide law? What new or unexpected directions is the agency focusing on\, especially in regards to compliance of nontraditional products\, including those created in response to COVID-19? Expert panelists will address these questions\, provide practical guidance on compliance with FIFRA\, and explore FIFRA enforcement priorities. \n\n\nTuesday\, September 22\, 2020\nREGISTER\nThis event is free and open to the public but you must register by September 18\, 2020. \n\n\nPanelists: \n\nAndrew R. SUMMARY:PFAS and the Toxics Release Inventory – New Reporting Obligations from the National Defense Authorization Act of 2020
DESCRIPTION:As of January 1\, 2020\, companies have new obligations to report releases of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) to the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) based on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Reporting Year 2020. The NDAA added reporting obligations for 172 individual PFAS chemicals. This potentially impacts any company using any of these PFAS chemicals in their processes\, including use of PFAS-containing firefighting foam for training and/or actual fire suppression. This webinar will address this change and also review recent updates to the general regulatory landscape for PFAS issues and practice pointers for TRI enforcement and voluntary disclosures to reduce liability. \n\n\nClick here to Register \n\n\n\nTuesday\, June 9\, 2020\n10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. PT | 1:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. ET\n\nSPEAKERS \nAndrew Stewart\, Counsel\, Environmental\, Sidley \nMarshall Morales\, Associate\, Environmental\, Sidley \nMelissa Hart\, Senior Client Services Manager & Market Director\, TRC \nKenneth Siet\, Vice President\, TRC \nFor more information or questions\, please contact dcevents@sidley.com.

SUMMARY:Free Trade Under Fire - How might U.S. trade policy change under a new administration?
DESCRIPTION:Candidates on both sides of the U.S. political aisle have signaled a new direction for U.S. trade policy. The UK vote to leave the European Union will fuel the debate.
